Alvaro F. A. Espinosa, PhD (Philip) has over 35 years of Human Resource leadership experience serving in CHRO-level roles in higher education and healthcare. Philip also leads a boutique firm, Leadership For Leaders LLC, specializing in leadership and HR effectiveness consulting. He is the current Program Chair for the Human Resource Management Program with the Malcolm Baldrige School of Business at Post University. Of particular interest for Philip is exploring how HR leaders and HR teams can contribute in more meaningful ways to organizational success. This led to an interest throughout his career in focusing on organizational leadership capacity with a particular emphasis on shifting the HR lens from considering employees as organizational assets to integral owners and investors in organizational success. In addition to a Ph.D. in Business Management with a Leadership specialization from Capella University, Philip has a Master of Science in Administration degree from Central Michigan University and an undergraduate degree in broadcast production management from the University of Colorado. Philip's career covers higher education, healthcare, and the public sector, supporting leaders and employees in small (500+ employees) to large organizations (over 10,000 employees). As a senior generalist and HR leader, Philip had responsibility for the full spectrum of HR functions, and placed an emphasis on the employee experience and organizational leadership capacity. He led teams and projects in the areas of talent acquisition, employee engagement, employee relations, performance management, labor relations, training and development, leadership development, compensation, benefits, system implementations, workforce data management, payroll, compliance, risk management, and safety. Philip is a member of SHRM, CUPA, and OLC (Online Learning Consortium). In the past, he served as a Chamber of Commerce director, on a YMCA board of directors, regional advisory board member of HERC (higher education recruitment consortium), and as a member of the Michigan Upper Peninsula Human Resource Association (UPHR), and the Appalachian Health Care Human Resource Society. Other community work included curriculum development committees with Grand Blanc Schools, Carmen-Ainsworth Schools, Genesee Valley Skills Center, and Goodwill Industries.
