José Viriato Coelho Vargas
Dr. José Viriato Coelho Vargas is a full professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Federal University of Paraná, Brazil, where he is the leader of the Energy and Thermal Sciences Group. He is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (USA). He carries out theoretical, numerical, and experimental scientific research in alternative energy sources, photobioreactors design and optimization, petroleum refining processes, power and cogeneration systems, heat and mass transfer, microalgae biotechnology, and biomedical engineering. Furthermore, he has published more than 540 scientific publications/communications, including 1 book, 15 book chapters, 150 original research papers, and 370 research communications at national and international conferences. He has registered twelve patents, with five applications granted. Currently, his main research involves photobioreactor design, microalgae biotechnology, the development of new fuel cells, and the thermal management of large systems.
