Pradip K. Bhowmik

Dr. Pradip K. Bhowmik is currently a Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He came to the United States from Bangladesh in 1983 and obtained his M.S. in Physical/Organic Chemistry in 1987 and Ph.D. in Organic/Polymer Chemistry in 1990 from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, respectively. Prior to joining the faculty at UNLV in the fall of 1998, he was a Scientist at Polaroid Company, in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Bhowmik has received several teaching awards including the Regents’ Teaching Award (2015), the UNLV Foundation Distinguished Teacher Award (2011, 2004), the UNLV Alumni Outstanding Faculty Member 2010, and the College of Sciences Distinguished Teacher Award (2012, 2003). He received the 2014 POLY Fellow and 2014 ACS Fellow Award for his outstanding scientific/professional accomplishments and service to the American Chemical Society (ACS). He also received a service award twice (2014, 2007) from the Southern Nevada Local Section of ACS for his outstanding service to society and Program Chair Award (2022) for his extraordinary contributions to the success of the Western Regional Meeting 2022 of the ACS. Dr. Bhowmik has authored/co-authored 110 peer-reviewed journal articles; many of them published in high-impact journals. He has written five book chapters and edited 10 books in his career. He has authored/co-authored over 40 refereed conference papers. Additionally, he has invented six patents on anticancer drugs and on fire retardant polymers, and a half dozen patents are also pending. He actively participates in various professional organizations related to chemistry including the ACS. Dr. Bhowmik serves as an Academic Editor for 15 journals and as a member of the Editorial Board of 17 journals. He sits on as an Advisory Board Member for InnoSense LLC, California, for NoFire Zone Inc., Reno, Nevada, Quantum Copper Inc., Las Vegas, Nevada, and Advancelyte, Inc., Las Vegas, Nevada. He also has reviewed over 530 manuscripts for publication in 84 scholarly journals as well as numerous grant proposals from various public and private funding sources.
