Our 'Engaging with Open Science 2023' series concluded with a webinar on Open Peer Review, aligning perfectly with Peer Review Week's theme: "Peer Review and The Future of Publishing,’ emphasising peer review's crucial role in shaping scholarly communication.
Adrian Stanley opened the webinar by discussing the history and evolution of peer review, its importance in maintaining academic quality, and various forms of open peer review. He also talked about the new peer review terminology standard and AI tools supporting the process, highlighting how transparency and openness benefit research integrity and science advancement. Alessio Bolognesi then delved into eLife's new peer review and publishing model, showcasing the growing adoption of openness among global researchers. This includes Open Peer Review as a counterpart to the traditional peer review model, reflecting the changing landscape of scholarly communication.
